Although capital markets are not a novelty for developed economies (first trades in shares, bonds or futures were done hundreds of years ago), in emerging economies like that of Romania, investors in stocks retain a fairly exotic aura.
While a large part of the US and EU population owns securities, whether directly by investing themselves or indirectly, via an investment or pension fund, in Romania only a small part of the population has decided to familiarize itself with the workings of the capital market, the bulk of savings still being directed to cash deposits.
It’s true that managing your securities holdings assumes doing some research, or probably more than just for commercial bank’s savings products, but some believe it may be worthwhile.
