The figures released by the National Institute of Statistics (NIS) this morning show the continuity of the upward trend for the volume indicators in the domestic tourism sector at the beginning of 2025. The number of the arrivals rose for the 12th month in a row, by an accelerating Y/Y pace to 10.2% (the highest since Sep 2023), to 847.3K in Jan. The domestic component advanced by 10% Y/Y to 713.1K, while the foreign segment increased by 11.6% Y/Y to 134.2K. The number of nights spent climbed for the 4th month in a row in Jan, the Y/Y pace improving to 12.7% (the strongest since April 2023), to 1.6mn. The domestic segment rose by 13.3% Y/Y to 1.3mn, while the foreign component climbed by 10.2% Y/Y to 300.5K.
Our view: This positive evolution was supported by several factors, including the expansionary income policy implemented in 2024, the improvement of the domestic supply of tourism services, and the increasing visibility of Romania on the international markets. We expect this upward trend to continue in the coming quarters, with the tourism volume indicators set to reach record levels in 2025, contributing to the rebound of the annual growth pace | POSITIVE
